Sarasota Paranormal Investigation and Research Initiative Team (S.P.I.R.I.T.) is well aware of the definition and can help others in seeking the answers to their own definitions of the term ‘paranormal’.

SPIRIT is a Sarasota based non-profit paranormal investigative group formed in 2008 dedicated to helping people understand what they may be experiencing, and to help them deal with situations with the aid of education, science, technology, research and good, old fashioned deductive reasoning. Through their methodology, they can identify problems or causes that may be assumed as paranormal that really are not. Many feelings and occurrences that might otherwise be left unexplainable can be resolved. Many people misunderstand what they have experienced and are afraid to discuss it or examine it further. Identifying these occurrences and feelings, documenting cases and researching the situations can solve many dilemmas or otherwise properly identify true paranormal activity.
Individuals who believe they are experiencing paranormal phenomena want answers.
SPIRIT can help discover those answers. They are comprised of individuals who have a personal interest in the field of the paranormal and employ the talents of both experienced believers and firm skeptics to better analyze the evidence collected. Using high-tech and low-tech detection equipment, audio and video recording devices and human sensitivity, SPIRIT can determine if the evidence may be paranormal when all rational or scientific possibilities have been ruled out. SPIRIT is professional, courteous, discreet and understands. They have formed many alliances within the paranormal, medical, psychological and scientific industries, and are constantly continuing to seek the truth about the paranormal.
Whatever is the case, our brains have to categorize things to explain them. “That is exactly what humans are wired to do. We have to put things in a category to yield a viable explanation. Hundreds of years ago, thunder and lightning was the result of the gods being angry - because we had to categorize things. So when we can’t understand something, we have to try to make sense of it. Our organization just isn’t happy accepting that we just don’t know,” says John Eagen, one of the founders of S.P.I.R.I.T.
Investigative time and services are always free of charge to clients in need. They are open-minded and all investigations are treated in a professional manner, with respect and confidentiality to all persons involved. Their goal is to gather and collect data that will lead to a better understanding of the paranormal. In the process, they also wish to aid any individual having problems dealing with a situation. They hope to do this by educating clients as to the possible true nature of the situation; giving them information and helping them understand, and therefore creating a livable resolution for people involved.
Other future plans for S.P.I.R.I.T. include fund raising events, seminars and classes in paranormal topics, membership-based forums, and sponsored group investigations for those individuals interested in participating in an investigation.
